Freddy Kowalski and Emile Ramzy are paramedics in Hamburg and race night after night through the city, regardless of congested intersections, red lights and oncoming traffic. They are real life savers. One day they witness a murder and decide to go to the bottom of the thing itself. They come across an explosive corruption scandal that brings them in danger. Without knowing it, they hold the most important keys to investigate the crime itself in their hands.
Chief Inspector Fredo Schulz receives a surprising diagnosis: the doctor tells him that he has colon cancer and only has three months to live. He should do something nice. “What’s that supposed to be?” Fredo asks himself and goes to work. He and his colleague Radu Lupescu are called to an apartment block in front of which a security guard was shot. He accompanied the owner Samir Berri, who is planning to clear and renovate the apartment block. Fredo has already arrested Samir once - for drug trafficking. He suspects that Samir is just laundering money with his supposedly clean real estate transactions.
A brazen gang of car thieves is arrested. Their leader manages to free himself from prison with the help of a friend, is arrested again and sees his last chance in a spectacular hostage situation.

The three friends Ertan, Kemal and Mehdi live in Kiel. They are foreigners, "Kanaks", as they proudly call themselves. For them, this term is an expression of their attitude to life. The trio keeps their heads above water with small-time crooks, but over time they are drawn deeper and deeper into a maelstrom of violence and crime. On a whim, Erkan acts as the protector of two prostitutes and makes enemies of two unscrupulous pimps. After a failed robbery, Ertan ends up in prison for a short time and Kemal is deported to Turkey. However, the two proud "Kanaks" don't let this get them down, on the contrary: together, the friends now want to build a drug air bridge between Istanbul and Germany. But the dream of quick money ends in death and grief for Kemal and Ertan.
A small paper umbrella attracts the attention of Fredo Schulz when chief detectives Milan Filipovic and Lola Karras visit him at the North Sea. A seven-year-old girl has disappeared. However, the two of them have a much bigger problem: the crime has made Kessel vulnerable to blackmail.
Diller and Kessel, two hardened Hamburg investigators, learn that their "old buddy" Mohammed is planning to rob a bank with his buddies. Kessel is a customer there, of all places. Kessel is divorced because of previous drug problems, but has resolved to win Claire and the children back and has therefore been clean for months. Despite Kessel's warning to the branch manager, the gangsters carry out their plan and take a hostage who happens to be there: Kessel's daughter Ruby, who suffers from epilepsy.
Eddi is just back in town after his imprisonment. He plans to free his African jail comrade Timpe, because the latter will get no asylum in Germany and probably be killed when sent to his country. When freeing Timpe at the airport, Eddi and his comrades find out that the police officers are smuggling drugs when escorting those who get no asylum back to their countries. Eddi decides to take advantage of the situation.
