Nina is a young, carefree actress who arrives in Paris searching for her big break. Leon who works as a bathhouse attendant discovers a passion for the tango that will change his life. He falls in love with Fumée, a young and pretty prostitute who becomes his partner in tango contests.

In Grenoble, a prostitute is murdered in her hospital bed. Cora twenty-two and also a prostitute was one of her friends. On a daily basis these women suffer violence receive a miserable salary and work non-stop in terror of the pimps.

After her gynecologist tells her that her current involuntary celibacy could result in her being unable to enjoy sex in the future, Eva begins to consider ways that she could take active steps to get some action going in that area. Unfortunately, none of the men she currently knows are interested in going to bed with her, including her business partner, who just might be sexually attracted to trees but certainly isn't to her. That being the case, it is particularly galling that he gets jealous at the very notion of her having sex with business clients. Eva discusses these issues (and a great deal more) with her similarly forty-ish gal-pals.

The Italians have bocce ball, and the French have a similar game, boules. This is played (generally in the southern part of the country) with steel balls on a packed-earth court. While these games have a bucolic, countrified and even genteel air about them, competition and betting are fierce. In this sports/crime thriller, a young man whose father was killed for violating the unspoken roles of the game in professional competition trains with his grandfather to become a champion boules player just like his father.

A team of amateur filmmakers sets off, camera in hand, to the south of Morocco. During their stay, one of the members of the group, Fanette, a vulgar vampire, is murdered. The Moroccan police do not find the culprit, and Paris takes over the case. The inspector in charge of the investigation decides to view all the "works" made on site, in the presence of their author.
