The unlikely police pair Verena Berthold and Otto Garber are part of a special task force investigating organized crime in Berlin. He comes from the east, she from the west of Berlin. Billy Kuckuck is used to taking unpopular measures. But she is not used to switching off her mind in the process. For this reason, the assignment to collect the debt on a personal loan from the family of a recently deceased farmer leaves her anything but cold. The lender is Mr. Röschke, neighbor of the organic farm and also a farmer. His rigorous demand for repayment threatens to drive farmer Tanja Pohlmann to complete ruin. After the death of her husband, who had taken out the loan without consulting her, the mother is already at the end of her tether and no longer able to run the property. Her son Niklas sacrificially takes care of all the daily chores on the farm. In doing so, he neglects school and jeopardizes his A-levels. And nine-year-old Sophie feels obliged to stand in for her mother in the farm store instead of going to school. Of course, Billy is not indifferent to the fate of the organic farm. She is determined to help the Pohlmann family, but where can she start?

He goes to Wilzenberg with his ambitious colleague to interview Sonja's mother Maria, her former teacher Waldheim and her best friends. The more the journalists compile, the clearer the contradictions and gaps that the investigators should have noticed at the time.

As "one with a heart", Aglaia Szyszkowitz always sees her job as a bailiff as a challenge and an opportunity to help people in financial difficulties. Even if this means that she sometimes has to interfere in the lives of her current "cases". Fresh from the divorce court, Billy Kuckuck is hired by farmer Röschke to collect a personal loan from Tanja Pohlmann. Her husband, who recently died in an accident, had taken out the loan with Röschke to build the new farm store without her knowledge. The demand for repayment could mean final ruin for Tanja Pohlmann, who is already at the end of her tether and unable to manage the indebted farm.
