Detective Ukyo Sugishita confronts crime on the basis of his own convictions. He has a partner that works for him in the Special Task Unit. For the first 7 seasons, Ukyo’s first partner is Kaoru Kameyama. He is a good-natured, hot-tempered, straightforward and somewhat scattered detective. Beginning in Season 8, Takeru Kanbe replaces Kameyama. Contrary to his predecessor, Takeru is a lanky, cool, conceited and confident detective. From Season 11 to Season 13, Ukyo’s partner is a young detective Toru Kai. Toru is a son of Deputy Director-General of The National Police Agency. But he became a detective by his own effort. And starting with Season 14, Ukyo’s current partner is Wataru Kaburagi, an elite bureaucrat who came to the Metropolitan Police Department on temporary assignment. As the first partner without any career of a police officer, he will face challenging cases together with Ukyo.

A young man who showed little promise while a high school student becomes a master detective, just like his grandfather.

The drama is about five men and women who have gone off the rails in their lives and are trying to start their lives over by playing the role of a fake family based on the underworld part-time job case.

Matsuo Ryo works at a gardening company. He thinks women are annoying. At a client’s office, he meets Satogawa Akane who works as a CEO’s secretary. She is admired by the male employees due to her attractiveness and smarts, but, due to a bad experience, she is not interested in finding love. She only has sex with married men. A new male employee, Kinosaki Haruto, approaches Akane. One evening, Matsuo Ryo’s boss asks him if he is interested in marrying his daughter Tanno Ayaka and eventually taking over the gardening company. But, Ryo is embarrassed by the suggestion. He views Ayaka as a sister. Meanwhile, Ayaka works at a construction site during the day but works at a girl's bar at night. She has lost her sexual identity. While working at the girl's bar, female customer Kuroda Azusa approaches Ayaka.

Tokyo schoolgirl Hiromi and her friends engage in a practice known as enjo kosai, or "compensated dating", where older men pay young girls for dates. Hiromi plunges deeper into this world to raise money for an expensive ring.

The story of the play Tomei Ningen no Yuge (The Kiss of an Invisible Man) is overflowing with diverse motifs, including “Romeo and Juliet,” “The Miracle Worker,” the mythological world in the age of the gods, the River Styx and Hades. It develops further to cover World War II and the Imperial system, and together with skillful language play, a theatrical world unfolds in all directions.

High school student Mikiko travels back in time to the future using a time machine built by Monjiro, the physics club advisor. What awaited her there was the reality that her best friends, Yoko and Tatsuro, were already married and were on the verge of breaking up. Mikiko returns to the modern world with the help of future Monjiro to mend their relationship.

This video adaptation of Junji Inagawa's novel of the same title contains two episodes: "The Battle of the Women," a horror created by a feud between office workers, and "The Forgotten Item," a horror in which a girl in a kimono appears to a man and a woman living a happy life.
