Polizeiruf 110 is a long-running German language detective television series. The first episode was broadcast 27 June 1971 in the German Democratic Republic, and after the dissolution of Fernsehen der DDR the series was picked up by ARD. It was originally created as a counterpart to the West German series Tatort, and quickly became a public favorite.

New cooling towers are to be built for the power station in the small village of Zaspenhain. The work is being carried out by builders from Poland, including Jerzy. Gitta, a young woman from Zaspenhain, works at the power station as a laboratory assistant. When the Polish construction workers arrive, she falls in love with Jerzy. But then the past intervenes...

She has a son by Winfried, but he knows nothing about it. Winfried graduated from university and went on to become a successful journalist. They were both very happy to see each other again and spend a nice day together. But despite all the things they have to tell each other, one thing remains central: why did they break up back then and can they make a new start together? Monika remembers the good times she had with Winfried years ago. Back then, Winfried was superior to her and had leased success. Today he is struggling with many problems in his job and it seems that Monika has "overtaken" him in many respects. But Winfried, currently an embittered man, is given a chance in the movie's story to regain human sovereignty. And perhaps one day he could even be a good father to his son, of whose existence he was previously unaware.
