Charlie est un thérapeute pas vraiment orthodoxe, spécialisé dans la gestion de la colère. Fort du succès de son cabinet privé, il organise chaque semaine des sessions de groupe et part également faire des consultations bénévoles aux détenus d'une prison d'Etat. Côté vie privée, il doit jongler entre sa propre thérapeute (et meilleure amie), son ex-femme et sa fille de 13 ans atteinte de troubles obsessionnels compulsifs.

Le psychiatre Jason Seaver décide d'installer son cabinet chez lui, tandis que son épouse, Maggie, reprend son métier de journaliste. Il lui faut donc s'occuper de leurs trois enfants...
