Two sailors, Lasse and Karl Gustav, float ashore after a shipwreck. Visiting a castle a baron ask them to help him lay his hands on an inheritance by Karl Gustav posing as the heir of the castle.

Henrik Karlsson is accused of having stolen 5,000 SEK, even though he is innocent. But to protect the real thief, who is sick in hospital, Karlsson takes the full responsibility.

Julia works as a cashier at a piano factory in Stockholm. She and a couple friend go on a ski vacation to northern Sweden, while her boss at the piano factory notices there a money missing in cash register. He suspects Julia who have to prove her innocence.

In a small village there are two doctors - one professional and one quack. Dr. Bergman has to see the number of his patients dwindle, as they seem to prefer the traditional medication of the quack doctor, Rasmus Thomsen. Rasmus' son Erik graduates from medical school and returns to the village. While Rasmus and Dr. Bergman become enemies, Erik falls in love with Dr. Bergman's daughter Birgit.

Farmer Mårten Esbjörnsson has three adult sons who all want to find a wife to marry. However, all the young women of the neighborhood seem to be less than perfect.

Kalle Jeppson is the joyful owner of a rural inn, "Spången" (The Footbridge). His only problems are all the bylaws that makes it difficult to have a quiet drink and the shrew of his wife who is always nagging on him. Kalle is afraid to tell her that Karin the maid is really his daughter from the days before their marriage.

The wealthy hat maker Cederström has two daughters, Marianne and Lotte. He has decided that Marianne should marry Melander even though she loves the poet Malm. Lotte on the other hand loves Melander.

Baron von Werner and Gunnar Jansson are in a dispute over property rights. Inga, the baron's daughter, arrives home from France and is soon interested in Jansson, her father's archival, and tempers flare. Based on the play by Sigurd Wallén.

The plot revolves around Edvar Månsson, a farmer living in Skåne, Sweden.
