Savitri (Moushumi Chatterjee) falls in love with Vijay (Mithun Chakraborty), who saves her sister from a dacait named Shamshera (Amrish Puri). Both get very intimate, and then decide to marry. Before the marriage could take place, Shamshera kills Vijay, and Savitri gives birth to a baby boy, but is told that the child was born dead. She then marries Thakur Prem Singh (Navin Nischal), who is responsible for blinding Shamshera in one eye, and sending him to prison. Subsequently Savitri gives birth to another baby boy, Rajesh (Sumit Saigal). Years later, she comes across a young man named Ravi (also Mithun Chakraborty)
Maharaja Sharminder Bhupathi of Avanti and his wife, the Rajmata, would like to see peace in the region, and would like their daughter, Alaknanda, to marry the prince of Gandharva, Aditya Vardhan. While in Gandharva, Aditya has plans of his own, for he loves a courtesan, Jaswanti, and would not dream of marrying anyone else, much to the disapproval of his brother, Ugrarao. Not to be outdone, Alaknanda loves a young warrior by the name of Vikram Singh. Acharya Abangdev of Avanti has plans of his own, which do not include Alaknanda, as he would like to take the region over and rule over it through Ugrarao. Then the unexpected happens, Aditya is reportedly killed by bandits, and Abangdev announces that Ugrarao be the next king, but at the very moment, Aditya shows up, is crowned the king, and makes sweeping changes to Avanti for the betterment of the people.

Ganga Singh lives near Gangotri with her brother, Karam. One day she comes to the assistance of a young man, Narendra Sahay, who has come with a group of Calcutta-based college students to study the source of the holy river Ganga, and to get some holy water for his wheelchair-bound paternal grandma. Both are attracted to each other, and on the next Puran Mashi get married, and spend the night in close intimacy. Narendra leaves, but promises Ganga that he will be back soon. Months go by, but he does not return. She gives birth to a son, and as soon she is able to, she starts her journey to Alipor, Calcutta, to confront Narendra and ensure a better future for their son.
A motor mechanic, Billo Chaudhary, creates waves in the local community when he dares to play Holi with the arrogant and wealthy Rajkumari Devika Singh. Inspectors Amar (Dharmendra) and Dayal (Raza Murad) in their attempt to arrest bandit Sher Singh (Amrish Puri),, get injured, Amar survives, but Dayal gets his legs crushed and becomes wheelchair-bound. Later, Amar arrests local politician Jagannath Prasad (Kader Khan), who gets released without being charged while Amar gets reprimanded, and decides to resign. Later, Sher Singh hijacks a bus and holds the passengers as hostages in exchange for 25 of his jailed associates. Dayal's granddaughter, Seema (Mandakini), is amongst them, and Dayal asks Amar for assistance. Amar, along with ex-convict, Qasim Ali (Shatrughan Sinha), and Karan (Karan Kapoor), a drug-dealer, does manage to rescue them but differences crop up among the trio and they part ways. Then Amar finds out that Qasim and Karan have masterminded a plan to facilitate the escape of the 25 convicts, and decides to confront them.
Police Inspector Ram takes over charge of a police station in a crime-laden region of Bombay. He finds that whenever he attempts to arrest anyone, a gangster named Nagesh always intervenes and arranges their release. He confers with some havaldars about this issue, and they inform him that Nagesh has political influence and no one dares to oppose him. The only one who can dare to stand up to Nagesh is an elusive man called Vishal. On the other hand is Usha, Nagesh's sister, who has fallen in love with a middle-class fellow collegian named Raju. When Nagesh finds out he has Raju severely beaten up and left for dead, and asks his sister never to see Raju again. Raju survives and both he and his mother approach Vishal for justice. What is Vishal's background? Why does he dare to stand up against Nagesh when no one else can?

The story revolves around the pain of children that parents have, even adopted ones in India. Shankar, played by Danny, is a small-time crook who is given number one by gang leader (Kader Khan), though his accomplice No. 7, who uses him and gets him embroiled in a false murder. Shankar who deeply loves his wife Nanda (Deepti Naval) and daughter Meena (Mandakini), is devastated when he finds out that his newborn son has an incurable fever; he rushes to Dr. S. Malhotra (Suresh Oberio), who refuses to treat his son out of turn--and the baby dies. Full of vengeance, Shankar abducts the doctor's son Shoorveer and hands him to Iqbal to maim and make a beggar. Iqbal is saved in epilepsy by Shoorveer, who then brings him up as his own son.
