Natural World is a nature documentary television series broadcast annually on BBC Two and regarded by the BBC as its flagship natural history brand. It is currently the longest-running series in its genre on British television, with more than 400 episodes broadcast since its inception in 1983. Natural World is produced by the BBC Natural History Unit in Bristol, but individual programmes can be in-house productions, collaborative productions with other broadcasters or films made and distributed by independent production companies and purchased by the BBC. Natural World programmes are often broadcast as PBS Nature episodes in the USA. Since 2008, most Natural World programmes have been shot and broadcast in high definition.

Through unprecedented access we showcase the spectacle that is Wild Russia. From east to west, via mountains, volcanoes, deserts, lakes and Arctic ice, this breathtaking six-part series uses stunning cinematography to chart the dazzling natural wonders of this vast country.

The Baltics are rich in superlatives: a fifth of the world's spotted eagle stocks breed here. One of the largest courtship arenas for snipes is located here in the floodplains of Latvia. More than 1000 wolves go on the hunt in Latvia's forests. Lithuania is the land of storks - with over 13.000 pairs, no other region in the Baltic States has more white storks.

Spotted hyenas are known to not have the best reputation. Sociobiologically, spotted hyenas are extremely interesting animals. They live in tightly organized packs, clans of related females with their young and immigrant males. The rules of their hierarchy seem brutal to us, but hyenas have good reasons to submit to these harsh rules

Hans Goetze is not just the mayor of the picturesque coast village Ahrenshoop, he is also a famous painter. His portraits of people and landscapes sell to tourists all over the world. But the most common object of his paintings are cranes, who have a protected living place on the island of Darss. Every fall, tens of thousands of these large and majestic birds gather in the shallow waters of the baltic sea to prepare for their migration to the south. The film covers a full year of living on the island of Darss with the cranes coming and going.

Off the coast of Central Africa lies an isolated island, covered by primeval rainforest and surrounded by dark ocean waters, inhabited by a greater variety of species than nearly any other place on Earth this terra incognita is called BIOKO. The ruler of this realm is one of the world's least known primate species, the drill.

We follow a pack of wolves on Ellesmere Island, in Canada’s far north, as they struggle to raise their pups in the brief arctic summer. Hidden in her den, the alpha female of the pack gives birth to a new generation. Time is of the essence: her pups need to grow quickly and they have much to learn if they are to survive the merciless winter ahead.

Eastern Poland is one of Europe's last wild regions; the Biebrza lowlands make up the biggest national park in Poland and are of the utmost value for beavers, otters and countless aquatic birds.
