Venu is a very poor student and seeks to come out of the hostel by being unable to bear its expenses. Thus, he shifts to a lawyer Anand Rao's summer-house, who gives it to him free of cost. Venu has a brother who is a blacksmith and funds Venu's studies and his daughter's needs in their village. Anand Rao's wife doesn't agree to give their summer house to a bachelor, so Anand Rao insists that he is married.
Kumaran, who is married to Kumudha, takes the blame for a murder he did not commit. Convinced of his innocence, his former lover sets out to unearth the truth, which involves Kumaran's brother-in-law.

Lawyer Ganapathi and his wife Annapurna are the eldest members of a family. His brother Subbu and his wife Anusuya live in the village. The duo treats their cousin brother Gopu, who is an idealist, as their own sibling. Annapurna is a chronic patient so Gopu's wife Susheela takes care of the family. Jealous of the bonding between Annapurna and Susheela, Anusuya creates a rift between them. Gopu and Susheela move to the village. Gopu propounds cooperative farming and prospers.
The film begins in a village, where a wealthy couple, Ganapathi (Chadalavada) & Rangamma (Kannamba) has a son Krishna (Akkineni Nageswara Rao) and a daughter Swarajyam (Suryakala). Here, virago Rangamma maintains the household authority and scorns on the step-son Krishna. Krishna falls for his childhood Radha (Anjali Devi), daughter of school teacher Ramaiah (Perumallu). Learning it, Ramaiah moves with the wedding proposal when Rangamma desires Rs 10,000 of dowry. So, Ramaiah approaches malicious President Kondaiah (Gummadi) one that tramples the villagers by providing loans. At present, Ramaiah mortgages his property and acquires amount. But indeed, Kondaiah aspires to possess Radha, so, he thefts the dowry amount which makes avaricious Rangamma cancel the match. During that plight, Ramaiah agrees to couple up Radha with Kondaiah when Radha attempts suicide.
