This incarnation of the popular cartoon series finds Scooby and the gang living in Crystal Cove, a small town with a long history of ghost sightings, monster tales and other mysteries ripe for the sleuths to solve once and for all. But the longstanding Crystal Cove residents, who bank on the town's reputation to attract tourists, are prepared to do what it takes to protect their turf.

Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and the talking dog, Scooby-Doo, travel on the Mystery Machine van, in search of weird mysteries to solve.

Aside from doubling the length of each episode, The New Scooby-Doo Movies differed from its predecessor in the addition of a rotating special guest star slot; each episode featured real-life celebrities or well known fictional characters joining the Mystery, Inc. gang in solving the mystery of the week. Some episodes, in particular the episodes guest-starring the characters from The Addams Family, Batman, and Jeannie, deviated from the established Scooby-Doo format of presenting criminals masquerading as supernatural beings by introducing real ghosts, witches, monsters, and other such characters into the plots.

The 1977 and 1978 episodes were originally broadcasted as segments on the package show Scooby's All-Star Laff-A-Lympics and Scooby's All-Stars. The 1980 episodes featured Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels in their own half-hour timeslot.

Down-on-his-luck race car driver Jim Douglas teams up with a little VW Bug that has a mind of its own, not realizing Herbie's worth until a sneaky rival plots to steal him.

The Yowie Yahoo starts kidnapping musicians at a concert attended by Scooby and the gang in Vampire Rock, Australia.

Mysterious Orfamay Quest hires Los Angeles private investigator Philip Marlowe to find her missing brother. Though the job seems simple enough, it leads Marlowe into the underbelly of the city, turning up leads who are murdered with ice picks, exotic dancers, blackmailed television stars, and self-preserving gangsters. Soon, Marlowe's life is on the line right along with his case.

A friend of Fred's, Alejo Otero, invites the Scooby gang to Veracruz, Mexico. There they find a monster, El Chupacabra, terrorizing the town.

With the Mystery Machine stuck in mud, Mystery Inc. ends up becoming housekeepers for the Addams Family while Gomez and Morticia go on vacation to the Okefenokee Swamp. A giant vulture like super villain known as the Vulture threatens the Addams house and Wednesday goes missing, so Scooby and the gang go to find her and stop the Vulture.

3 robot-themed episodes from various Scooby-Doo series. First stop is Cyber Gulch, where the Mystery, Inc. gang must solve the riddle of the man-a-trons or get terminated in Go West, Young Scoob. En route to Florida, Freddy runs into a real Monster Truck at a championship stock car race in Gentlemen, Start Your Monsters. Buckle up for a roller-coaster ride of fun and fear in Foul Play in Funland when the gang discovers a fully operated amusement park...with nobody in it! Scooby-Doo Meets Batman is a video compilation from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. It consists of two episodes from Hanna-Barbera's The New Scooby-Doo Movies, "The Dynamic Scooby Doo Affair" and "The Caped Crusader Caper", where Scooby-Doo and the gang team up with Batman and Robin to capture Joker and the Penguin.

The Best of The New Scooby-Doo Movies: The Lost Episodes is a two-disc DVD set containing eight episodes of The New Scooby-Doo Movies television series. It was released by Warner Home Video on June 4, 2019 in the United States. It features the eight missing episodes from The Best of The New Scooby-Doo Movies that Warner Home Video released in 2005. Unfortunately, "Scooby-Doo Meets the Addams Family" was still unable to be included.
