Mike Hama, Private Detective, is a chain-smoking, wisecracking tough guy with a weakness for the ladies and a soft spot in his heart, especially for his kid sister Akane. Mike's so down on his luck he'll take any case, from finding a lost pet to spying on cheating spouses. But every now and then, along comes a client with dubious and dangerous case… and that's when Mike shows his stuff.

The story of a teenage boy called Yu, who falls for Yoko, a girl he runs into while working as an upskirt photographer in an offshoot of the porn industry. His attempts to woo her are complicated by a spot of cross-dressing – which convinces Yoko that she is lesbian – dalliances with kung-fu and crime, and a constant struggle with Catholic guilt.

There are all kinds of people living in the back street tenement houses in old Edo. One of them is Ashiya Dosan, the descendant of an Onmyoji who made a name for himself back in the Heian period. Unfortunately, unlike his forefathers, Dosan has not made much of a living off the fortune telling and amulet peddling that he does.

Amid the rising tension, Kawatani (Hitoshi Ozawa)—a benefactor to Mikami-gumi lieutenant Himuro (Yasukaze Motomiya) and Tamura (Yoshiyuki Yamaguchi)—is shot. When Tamura learns the attack was carried out by the Shintokai, he infiltrates Ueda’s residence alone and carries out the assassination. At the same time, Kawabata (Tatsuo Umemiya), chairman of the Kansai Shiseikai, begins his move to crush the Mikami-gumi, standing in the way of Himuro and his men as they climb toward nationwide domination.

This drew deadly attention, forcing them to flee to Osaka with the help of Akimoto (Sho Aikawa), the Wakagashira of the Anzai-gumi. Despite escaping, Himuro and Tamura continue to make enemies. One day, they gain recognition from Kawatani (Hitoshi Ozawa) of the powerful Kyowakai, but simultaneously clash with the Kyowakai-affiliated Mikami-gumi, sparking a violent conflict. With Kawatani’s backing, Himuro and Tamura joining the Mikami-gumi seems to settle the dispute. Yet, meanwhile, Kyowakai chairman Gonda (Shinichi Chiba), Wakagashira Kudo (Hakuryu), and Shiseikai chairman Kawabata (Tatsuo Umemiya) begin moves to unify Japan’s entire yakuza world…
