In a village in eastern Turkey, tales of the economic success of Turks in Switzerland inspire Haydar to convince his wife Meryem that they must go. He sells their livestock and small plot of land in exchange for passage for two. He wants to leave their seven children in the care of the eldest and his parents; his father advises him to take one son to be educated in Europe. Will anyone reach the land of promise?

Three couples head on vacation to a sensual getaway. What ensues is a tangled web of laughter, heartbreak, temptation, and raunchy revelations.

In 1940s Turkey, the war is recently over, but the wounds are still fresh, and the WWII is going on next door. A different family lives in each room of a mansion. They all lead a scarce life but hold on to life with hope.

The film deals with the damage caused to Turkish family structures by the migration of workers to Germany in the 1980s. Cemil leaves his wife Zeliha and son Ömer behind in their village and goes to Germany to work. Years later, when he returns, he feels alienated from his village and his family. He persuades his wife, who is illiterate, to sign divorce papers with the promise of taking her to Germany. He takes his son Ömer with him and moves to Istanbul. He marries Marta, whom he met in Germany. Zeliha comes to Istanbul to find her son and confront Cemil. Her honor and sincerity attract the attention of the media. Now Zeliha's problem has become the problem of all Turkey.

Metin Mertoğlu is the son of a wealthy family. He falls in love with Selma. To win her over, he pretends to be a thief and gets himself into trouble.
