Filmed at the legendary Ritz in 1991, this concert was one of three rehearsal “club” dates for the tour that would ultimately divide the band, and it took place at the 1,400-person-or-so-capacity Ritz. Rose tells the crowd he doesn’t like showing up to rehearsals (shocker) so this was his warmup, but he nevertheless delivers an impressive, throat-shredding performance throughout, even after injuring a leg mid-gig. He even sounds like he’s having fun. He does the Cool Hand Luke “failure to communicate” monologue himself in “Civil War,” which also features Slash riffing on Hendrix’s “Voodoo Child (Slight Return).”

Unbelievably strange concert with Axl going psycho, jumping into the crowd and starts beating up a concert goer! After security forces Axl back onstage, he storms off taking the band with him. At this point a cam-shot by the stage crew takes over showing in 27 min. the complete destruction of the amphitheatre by the angry crowd. Absolutely riveting! Rock In Rio II Festival. This was broadcast on Brazilian TV & radio. Matt & Dizzy's first show with the band. GN'R's first full show in nearly a year and a half and there's over 140,000 people in attendance! Axl says it is his first rehearsal in 2 years. Axl says that 'Patience' was mainly "pained" by Izzy Stradlin. Before 'Estranged,' Axl says "this will be the first time I've sang it in a happy mood." This could be Dizzy Reed, who joined the band in 1990 and was a friend in the club days.

Having not hit the road for most of the 80s, The Steel Wheels Tour was an astounding return for the Rolling Stones, not least as it was the longest tour they had by that point undertaken. It was also to be their last with Bill Wyman. Steel Wheels Live was recorded towards the end of the band’s 60-date run through the stadiums of North America, in the second half of 1989. The stage and lighting design of The Steel Wheels Tour set the pace for superstar tours as we know them today. Special guest appearances from Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin, Eric Clapton and John Lee Hooker on this Atlantic City date make this an even more extraordinary document of the band’s return to touring.
