Follows Karl (Nils Vogt), economist and accountant, after he is fired from his job and subsequently divorced by his greedy wife. After being helped out by his former colleague, Nils (Sven Nordin) and a travelling salesman, Henry (Arve Opsahl), the three become roommates.
An American bomber is shot down on the Norwegian coast during World War II. The airmen bail out and land at different locations. In spite of the German search for them, the Norwegian resistance picks them up and hides them in the attic of the local church, a center of operations. Things become tense, however, when the hideout is spotted by a notorious collaborator, and soon the protagonist, Hans, has to get the airmen to Sweden.

«Ta sjansen» was a popular Norwegian TV show broadcast on NRK from 1983 to 2002. It was a light-hearted, annual summer event filmed outdoors at the Homenkollen ski jump in Oslo. The show featured contestants competing in two main types of humorous and often chaotic challenges: Homemade boats racing down a steep ramp into the water, and creative bicycles racing on floating docks. Participants often wore silly costumes and built wildly imaginative contraptions, making the spectacle part game show, part variety show, and part slapstick comedy. «Ta sjansen» was known for its fun, festive atmosphere, and it became a beloved summer tradition in Norway. Though not officially competitive, winners were awarded prizes, and the emphasis was always on entertainment rather than serious sportsmanship.

The play opens in the study at Hakon Werle's house during a dinner party for the return of Werle's son, Gregers, from the Hoidal mines. Gregers has not come home for fifteen years. 12-year-old Ragnhild hears a legend about a mad horse that long, long ago ran away from its owners and fled to the mountains. Since then, no one has seen the wild animal. Until now. Ragnhild hears noises in the night and catches a glimpse of a large, black figure trampling in the yard. Shortly afterwards, the animal is gone. She tells others about her experiences, but no one believes her. She therefore decides to travel up to the mountain farm and stay in her family's old cabin. Perhaps she will see the black horse again there. She takes her best friend with her to the mountains in search of the so-called "Wild Horse." However, the wild animal is not the only danger posed by the mighty Sunnmøre Alps. Dangers lurk everywhere in the wild landscape, and hunters are also hunting in the same area. They shoot almost anything they come across.
