Roni Beck is a man whose only thought in life is to become a professional comedian, but who due to his lack of success must live hidden in his mother's appartment in an old people's home, continuing to believe firmly that his day in the limelight will come. One day Serge Grätzer, the director of the old people's home, discovers Roni, and makes him help out with the work. Serge then decides to take a hand in Roni's career, embezzling money to launch the budding comedian. Once again however success eludes Roni. In the end Serge decides to fulfil his own secret longings to be on the stage. This leads to a row between the two men. Despite a reconciliation, they never again appear together on the stage. And when Serge's embezzlement is discovered he has to flee with the police at his heels and the home has to be closes. In the end, Roni persuades Mr. Klein, an eccentric old man who likes to play the stock market, to save the home with the millions he has stashed away.

Fredi Rüegg's job is to bring runaway cats (some of which he stole himself in the first place) back to their owners. Two young unemployed men want to rob a bar, Swiss and Germans play cards at a regulars' table, a Zurich scene-goer tries to overcome his inability to form relationships with the help of a psychologist, and a banker cheats on his wife. Characters who are initially characterized as clichés gradually gain depth and become human. "Nachtexpress" shows encounters that could happen every night in Swiss cities. People get together to drink, talk, argue, and love. "Nachtexpress" is a socially critical comedy—a folk play that deals with current issues such as latent racism, love, and inconsistency.

When Leila discovers at her sister Amanda's wedding that the latter is pregnant, she promptly reveals the carefully guarded secret. A black comedy set in the fictional village of Gottlingen, which one day receives some very special new residents: nine men and women from an American sect settle in the remote community. When the sect members die in an accident, they leave behind a lot of money. The villagers seize the opportunity to pocket the money and cover up the traces of the accident. When other cult members from America announce their visit, the local council tries to cover up the whole affair. However, this deception triggers a chain reaction with dramatic consequences for the residents of Gottlingen.

Marcel is very impressed by Jaap, who seems to master life in every situation. Marcel wants to be like him. Jaap soon gives the Swiss family man the opportunity to become an investor in a new nightclub project.
