With the outbreak of World War I, however, the members of his new congregation oppose conscription while he wholeheartedly supports the Allied cause. Driven from his own church, he returns home to find Kate in banker Mark Overman's arms, enraged he strangles the banker. Sentenced to life imprisonment, his ex-wife Ruth pleads with Governor Morrison to pardon the errant clergyman. Gordon is allowed to return to his family.

After being released from imprisonment for a crime committed by her sister, Violet is forced to become a woman of easy virtue, and on an excursion to a South Sea isle she meets Luther Smith, a sailor seeking vengeance for the death of his sister. She feels unworthy of his love, but their paths cross again when he rescues her from Captain Sutton, the man responsible for the other girl's tragedy. This film is lost.

Yen Low plans to divorce his American wife, White Lily, and marry Wing Toy. The intervention of reporter Bob Harris leads to the release of Wing Toy; Yen Low is killed by White Lily; and Wing Toy's engagement to the reporter becomes possible when it is revealed that she is the daughter of the district attorney.

Loring, an author, in getting material for a book, goes to a gambling den. He sees Wilbur, who acts strangely. He follows him and when Wilbur is killed, Peter Charles, father of Beatrice Charles, is accused of the murder. The gambler gives him a fictitious story about a murderous gang when Loring attempts to solve the murder mystery. Several attempts are made on his life by the gang but fail. The gambler proves to be Beatrice’s villainous fiancee, and when he confesses the murder Loring wins the young woman.

A doctor dreams that he has shot and killed a local gambler. Awakened by a sudden noise, he discovers that the gambler is lying on his living-room floor, shot to death. Unnerved, he flees to Canada, but the RCMP finds out he's there and sets out to track him down.
