KVN is a Russian humour TV show and competition where teams compete by giving funny answers to questions and showing prepared sketches. The programme was first aired by the First Soviet Channel on November 8, 1961. Eleven years later, in 1972, when few programmes were being broadcast live, Soviet censors found the students' impromptu jokes offensive and anti-Soviet and banned KVN. The show was revived fourteen years later during the Perestroika era in 1986, with Alexander Maslyakov as its host. It is one of the longest-running TV programmes on Russian Television. It also has its own holiday on November 8, the birthday of the game, which KVN players celebrate every year since it was announced and widely celebrated for the first time in 2001.

Ancient Russia, XII century, the period of fierce internecine struggle of the princes of the Rurik family. The young Prince Andrey Bogolyubsky, the son of Yuri Dolgoruky and grandson of Vladimir Monomakh, returns home from Byzantium, where he spent several years. The story of the Podolsk cadets’ heroic stand outside Moscow in October 1941. Cadets were sent to the Ilyinsky line, fighting alongside units from the Soviet 43rd Army to hold back the German advance until reinforcements arrived. The characters have fictitious names, but they can easily be guessed by real people whom everyone knows perfectly well: Robert Rozhdestvensky, Yevgeny Yevtushenko, Andrei Voznesensky, Bulat Okudzhava, Bella Akhmadulina, Vladimir Vysotsky, Ernst Neizvestny, Vasily Aksenov himself and others.

The Master and Margarita is a Russian television production of Telekanal Rossiya, based on the novel The Master and Margarita, written by Soviet writer Mikhail Bulgakov between 1928 and 1940. Vladimir Bortko directed this adaptation and was also its screenwriter.

According to the plot, the main characters (Shurik, Bunsha, Zina and Ulyana Andreyevna) are going to celebrate New Year's Eve, and the engineer Alexander Sergeyevich Timofeev (Shurik) decides to present his recreated (and modernized) time machine to the guests. Having gone to the XVI century, they find there an aged Georges Miloslavsky, who has been sitting as regent for 25 years instead of Ivan the Terrible, who has run away; the Tsar was so inspired by the profession of Zina and Yakin that he decided to try his hand at filmmaking and went to "Mosfilm" instead of the Tsar's chambers. In an effort to correct the disruption of the course of history, the heroes re-engage the time machine and travel back to the 1970s in search of the Tsar, who dreams of becoming an actor.

The plot follows the events surrounding Vladimir from childhood and into adulthood. In the beginning of the film, being under the influence of the high priest Krivzha, the Prince is a young, impulsive and cruel pagan. Fighting for supreme power, Vladimir wins a battle that kills his brother. Regretting what he has done, Vladimir does not suspect a conspiracy between the priest and the Pechenegs. Vladimir is concerned about gathering the Slavic tribes into one united state. Solving this major task, he faces obstacles, which Vladimir overcomes in the end, defeating Krivzha and winning the battle against Kurya, a Pecheneg chief.

The distant future. Earthlings help less developed civilizations overcome difficult stages of evolution. Anton, an employee of the Institute of History, goes to the medieval Arkanar to rescue scientists who can advance evolution. He will become Don Rumata of Estor, a wealthy aristocrat and lover of fights, booze and women. The main rule of progressors is not to interfere directly with the natural course of history, pointwise saving a few enlighteners from death. But Anton has a personal interest that he hid from the institute: somewhere in Arkanar, his father went missing.
