Afterwards, Jack learned that Bingbing is actually the illegitimate child of Xue’er. Once an accident, Ximei got a cash with Xue’er’s painting. This scene happened to be seen by Jack, and this banknote linked all of them together.
Based on a true story, the film begins on December 9, 1983, when Chi Yuezhong, a student at Taiyuan No. 15 Middle School, rushes to save two children who have fallen through the ice at Yingze Park. He too becomes trapped in the freezing water. Wang Zhisheng, captain of the park’s landscaping team, arrives and dives three times to rescue all three students, but Chi dies after emergency treatment fails. Years later, the two rescued children grow into radically different lives. Shaped by family education, personal ambition, and social environment, one joins the army and later becomes a diligent worker, while the other, spoiled and misguided, becomes involved in organized crime and is eventually sentenced to death for murder. Through their diverging fates, the film reflects on sacrifice, moral education, and the long shadows cast by a single act of rescue.
