Biography
He has starred in many films in his long career. Recent films include Dark Blue World, Shark in the Head and Handcuffs. He also plays the lead role in Menzel's adaptation of Hrabal's I Served the King of England. He is also famous for his roles in TV series such as 30 Cases of Major Zeman and Hospital on the Edge of Town. He has also appeared in many TV shows such as Maybe the Magician Will Come or the improvisational Russian Roulette as a well-known comedy duo with Jiří Lábus. Together they also made the long-running radio improvisation series The Tlučhořovi, which reached eight hundred episodes in November 2007, and the successful TV show Zeměkoule. A species of shoebill (Cychrus kaiseri) is named after him, which he discovered together with entomologist and neurosurgeon Vladimir Benes in the summer of 2004 in Asia. From 1980 to 2005, his wife was the Czech actress Naďa Konvalinková. Since 2020, his wife has been the singer-songwriter Dáša Vokatá. The series ran from 1977 to 1981 for a total of twenty episodes. The success of the series inspired the German television series The Black Forest Clinic.

While on vacation with their bickering parents in Portugal, Eva and her little brother Johnny find two strange clots of clay on a polluted beach, who can speak and move on their own. They create two octopuses out of the blue and green material and take them home to Prague, soon discovering that their new pets attract electricity and other disasters.

Lt. Franta Slama is a top pilot in the Czech Air Force who is assigned to train a promising young flier, Karel Vojtisek, and they soon become friends. When Nazi Germany invades Czechoslovakia in 1939, they both reject the authority of their new leaders and escape to England where they join other Czech exiles in the RAF. While flying a mission over England, Karel crash lands and happens upon the farmhouse of Susan, a young woman whose husband is in the Navy. Karel soon falls head over heels for Susan but, while they enjoy a brief fling, in time Susan decides she prefers the company of the older and more worldly Franta. As Franta and Karel struggle to maintain their friendship despite their romantic rivalry.

The 50th anniversary of the Barrandov studios was celebrated with a spectacular show: many directors and other important people gathered in the expensive decorations of the Variety Theatre auditorium (built for the Circus Humberto series). They smiled and showed well-deserved relaxation after a job well done in managing socialist cinema. Vladimir Sís interspersed this with excerpts from films, mainly his own and also a little of others who had worked on the "Hill of Dreams".
