Ulrich Mühe plays a German businessman who was born completely without scruples. This makes him an eminently suitable candidate for success in the chaotic years after World War I. The shameless man's story is contrasted with that of his polar opposite, a Jewish anarchist.
Spider's Web

Following the failure of his last mission, RFG spy Michael Roddick decides to disappear, taking along Elena, the daughter of a Russian spy who died under strange circumstances. They settle in Barcelona and open a restaurant, to help them to forget about the past. Nevertheless, his former colleagues reappear alleging there are still some matters yet to be settled.
Black Flowers

A group of German boys is ordered to protect a small bridge in their home village during the waning months of the second world war. Truckloads of defeated, cynical Wehrmacht soldiers flee the approaching American troops, but the boys, full of enthusiasm for the "blood and honor" Nazi ideology, stay to defend the useless bridge.
The Bridge

In the town of Schilda, the female population is growing angry because, apart from the town clerk, the pastor, and the gatekeeper, all the men in town are away on business. This is because the citizens of Schilda enjoy an excellent reputation worldwide and have therefore been taken into the service of the high lords of other countries. However, since the women of Schilda no longer want to do without their husbands, they threaten them with divorce. Of course, the men return immediately and immediately discuss what to do so that they can remain in Schilda in peace. The swineherd Georg Christian Trölsch has the saving idea: since the cleverness and skill of the Schildbürger was the reason for their absence, it is decided that from now on they will act foolish and stupid. This way, hardly any foreign lord will be interested in bringing a Schildbürger to his court.
The People of Schilda

Shortly before the outbreak of World War II, the paths of three people on the run cross by chance in the small Baltic Sea port of Rerig: Gregor, a member of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD); Judith, a Jewish woman; and a pastor who wants to save an Ernst Barlach sculpture classified as degenerate art. All those involved share a common fate and the dream of a fisherman's boy from Zanzibar, which is less a real goal than a utopia of a better future. Adaptation of Alfred Andersch's novel.
