It is adapted from the real-life case of Zhang Baolin, a notorious gang leader in Shijiazhuang. The story centers on a shooting incident in the Fanguang Alley area of Hengzhou City. During the investigation, Deputy Chief Xu Guoqing discovers that the victim, Wu Tian, has a highly complex background. Although the police successfully arrest some members of the gang involved, the ringleader, Liu Huaqiang, remains at large. Following Wu Tian's murder, Li Li—the head of a local real estate company—is gripped by panic; she attempts to flee the dangerous area with her younger sister, Li Mei, but Li Mei refuses to leave. Ten Minutes Older is a 2002 film project consisting of two compilation feature films entitled The Trumpet and The Cello. The project was conceived by the producer Nicolas McClintock as a reflection on the theme of time at the turn of the Millennium. Fifteen celebrated film-makers were invited to create their own vision of what time means in ten minutes of film.
