In a working-class neighborhood, Salma, the daughter of Constable Gaber, falls in love with Antar, a soldier. But this does not please Baraka, the butcher and neighborhood tough, who tries to drive them apart. Although he is already married to two women, Baraka wants to marry Salma and competes with Antar through unscrupulous means.

The film follows Fawzi, a poor unemployed young man whose fiancée leaves him for a wealthy man. When circumstances present him with an opportunity to make quick money through smuggling, he decides to accept the offer.
