Biography
Richard Goulis is a prominent multi-disciplinary and performance artist, actor, director, and a central figure in the Providence, Rhode Island art scene. Known for his eclectic style, he works fluidly across video production, multimedia art, puppetry, and found-object assemblages. Goulis arrived in Providence in 1980 and graduated from the Film, Video, and Animation Department at the Rhode Island School of Design. His creative philosophy centers heavily on spontaneity, finding inspiration everywhere, and experimenting with materials. A significant portion of his multimedia art incorporates found or discarded items, which he recontextualizes into loose, poetic narratives. Over his decades-long career, he has also explored large-scale installations, durational performances, and organic sculpture.
