In the center of the story are three main characters - Lieutenant Colonel Soshnikov, Captain Muravyov and Major Zakharov. Three ages, three different characters, three different destinies, which are destined to meet at the Khmeimim military base.

The noble and beloved policeman Ramash, thanks to whom peace and order reign in the city of Khurmada, joins the fight against the cunning, greedy bandit Shamar. Shamar, raised by foster parents, arranges a series of crimes in the city, and Ramash stands up for Khurmada. During the active confrontation, it turns out that Ramash and Shamar are brothers separated in childhood. The brothers' investigation leads them to the trail of the culprit of the great fire that claimed the lives of Ramash and Shamar's parents. They turn out to be Khurmada's main patron and patron, Sandurlai, with whom they have to fight.

In order to fulfill his father's last will, the Cossack Aljoha goes abroad to worship the Virgin Mary. The road takes him through the Ottoman Empire, where he is captured and becomes the janissary Ali. However, nothing can stop a free Cossack. Aljoha does not lose hope that he will regain his freedom, fulfill his father's will, meet love and return to his homeland.
