Biography
Tiarra Smith is a 27 year old filmmaker and creative based in New York. She graduated from CUNY Queens College in 2021, with a degree in Sociology and Media production. Giving her skills in research, sociology, Final Draft, Adobe Premiere, screenwriting, and script editing. She ran a marketing campaign to raise money for her short film, Bunny and the Wood. Which was successfully crowdfunded on Kickstarter in April 2021. She worked throughout all stages of production. Her short film was an official selection in the San Diego Black Film Festival and the First-Time Filmmaker Online Sessions. It was also a semi-finalist and award winner in the San Francisco Indie Short Festival. She ran a successful marketing campaign in October 2022 on Seed and Spark for her short documentary, “Are WE Beautiful?”. Which premiered at the Academy Award Qualifying Indy Shorts Festival in July 2024. Her second documentary short, “Return to Sender” is currently in post production.

"Are WE Beautiful?” is an exploration of the way societal views affect the Black self-image. Told through a series of interviews with real New Yorkers of different ages and gender expressions, exploring and discussing the titular question: are we beautiful?
