A prince from a small kingdom courts a wealthy widow to keep her money in the country.

Marshovia, a small European kingdom, is on the brink of bankruptcy but the country may be saved if the wealthy American Crystal Radek, widow of a Marshovian, can be convinced to part with her money and marry the king's nephew count Danilo. Arriving to Marshovia on a visit, Crystal Radek change places with her secretary Kitty. Following them to Paris, Danilo has a hard time wooing the widow after meeting an attractive young woman at a nightclub, the same Crystal Radek who presents herself as Fifi the chorus girl. Renée Fleming lights up the Met stage as Hanna Glawari, the fabulously wealthy widow of the title in Lehár’s beloved operetta, set in Paris and seen in a glittering production directed and choreographed by Broadway’s Susan Stroman. Nathan Gunn is Danilo, Hanna’s former flame, who is supposed to woo and marry her in order to keep her fortune in their home country of Pontevedro. Kelli O’Hara sings Valencienne, the flirtatious young wife of the Pontevedrian ambassador in Paris, Baron Zeta, played by Thomas Allen, and Alek Shrader is her suitor, Camille. Andrew Davis conducts the waltz-rich score, and the new English translation is by Jeremy Sams.

Pierre and Georges both love Gretel who, in turn, is in love with Georges. Georges falls in love with another, Dolly, but the lover of the latter threatens to stop supporting him. Georges ends up finding Gretel, who forgives him, while Pierre steps aside to ensure their happiness.

For the centenary of the Verona Opera Festival, Jonas Kaufmann gave a gala concert in the Arena on 20 August 2023. A British musical film directed by Victor Hanbury and Ladislao Vajda

On an open-air stage in the castle courtyard, Klaus Florian Vogt and the Munich Symphony Orchestra present a varied program featuring works by Mozart, Wagner, and Strauss.

Accompanied by the chamber music ensemble CHAARTS, the soprano and tenor perform arias and duets from works by Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Gounod, and Bizet. All in the open air, in the courtyard of Neuschwanstein Castle.

Celebrating its 125th anniversary, the Viennese orchestra arrives in Trieste, Italy, to perform at the splendid Teatro Rossetti. Soloists include Michael Spyres and Tara Stafford, performing operetta arias by Johann Strauss and Franz Lehár. The Wiener Symphoniker are conducted by their new conductor Petr Popelka with pieces by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky completing the programme.
