At a mine on the shared edge of France and Germany, an underground explosion leads to the entrapment of a group of French miners. In an effort to save the trapped Frenchmen, German miners Wittkopp and Kasper take it upon themselves to traverse a crumbling war tunnel leading down into the mines. She also reversed class and gender roles, as she made the female character Gossette come to the aid of Phillipe de Savières, falsely accused of murder, in order to save his name.

In this romantic film inspired by Mädchen in Uniform, two young, independent Amsterdam women win a trip to the Ardennes in a writing contest. Unbeknownst to them, they are followed by an attractive journalist with a camera, after which they both fall in love with him, and they compete with each other for him.

This film follows Jean, a young French soldier who is physically and mentally scarred by his experiences on the front lines. He struggles to readjust to civilian life, and his family soon realizes the extent of his trauma. Jean's childhood sweetheart, Madeleine, is now married to his friend and fellow soldier, Pierre. Jean's family fears he will succumb to his despair, and they desperately search for ways to help him find peace.
