Angela, a civil advocate interviewing inmates at the Madras Central Prison for a documentary on the death penalty meets Virumaandi and Kothaala, who are sentenced to death and life respectively for their roles in perpetrating the massacre of 24 people during a brutal clash between feuding villages. As tensions mount within the prison walls, she listens to their conflicting accounts of the same story.

What was supposed to be a thriller then becomes a series of unengaging sequences, thanks to underdeveloped characters and low production values. The core plot surrounding astrology was left unexplored after a point. With an aimless screenplay, unnecessary songs, weak humour, ineffective twists and strictly okayish performances from the two lead characters, Thiruvalar Panchankam becomes a tedious affair.

Appu, a money-minded woman, believes that her daughter is the charm behind her affluent status. Issues erupt when her daughter decides to get married and part ways with her.

Naaga, a thug, helps a corrupt officer kidnap a journalist for exposing him and costing him his promotion. However, when the officer rapes her, Naaga realises his mistake and decides to mend his ways.

Elders of the town constitute a panchayat and meet when a crime is committed by anyone and mete out punishment. Viswa and his friends are accused of a crime not committed by them. The elders sit in judgment and award punishment to them without giving them a chance to be heard and to prove their innocence. As an expression of resentment, the boys commit a petty crime, albeit playfully. It lands them in serious trouble. How they manage to come out of it unscathed is the crux of the story.
