The story based on the true event, Chaupadi Pratha; a traditional, discriminatory practice in parts of western Nepal where menstruating or postpartum women and girls are banished from their homes to sleep in isolated huts or animal sheds— still prevailing in fewer places.
The story revolves around a schoolgirl who faces the hardships of poverty, discrimination, and the painful realities of early marriage. Her family, burdened by financial stress, sees little choice but to marry her off while she's still a child.
Dobato is a classic Nepali movie released in 2007, celebrated for bringing together some of the biggest icons of the Nepali film industry.
