This adaptation of Goethe's The Sorrows of Young Werther offers a chilly and remote view of love and its passions. The setting is changed to Spain, and Werther (Eusebio Poncela) has taken a job tutoring the son of an estranged husband and wife. The boy's mother is a surgeon and therefore a rather uncommon woman for her society. She and Werther gradually become romantically involved, and his feelings for her begin to run much deeper than is apparent on the surface.
By chance, Miguel el Tarta becomes a potential boxing champion. Manipulated by Manolo, his opportunistic and cynical best friend, and several unscrupulous individuals, Miguel is thrown into the ring, where he tries to fight with more enthusiasm than technique.
A governess, caring for two children at a remote estate, becomes convinced that the grounds are haunted and the children are under an evil influence.
Leandro, an unemployed mason and his friend, Tocho, attempt to rob a tobacconist in the Vallecas district of Madrid, but Mrs. Justa, the tobacconist, impedes it alerting the neighbors who notify police. Inside the shop, the confrontation between the two friends and their 'hostages', the tobacconist and her niece Angeles, is relaxing, and a budding sympathy arises between them.

Ceferino and his wife have won a contest and will travel soon to Paraguay and they are there because they want to know the airplane. Mr. Beltran is very nervous because he returned to Spain after many years of exile.
