Biography

Thibaut Marot is a French photographer, director, and videographer based in Briançon, renowned for his work on climbing, mountaineering, and Himalayan expeditions. With over ten years of experience, he has built a reputation for capturing not only landscapes and light, but also the tenacity, ambition, and poetic moments of those who push human limits in the wilderness. He has collaborated with some of the best French climbers and mountaineers. He directed and produced films for Seb Bouin, such as the "Hidden Gems" series, "ACL" (9b), and "Wolf Kingdom" (9b+). He has also documented Benjamin Védrines, notably during high-altitude alpine expeditions such as "Jannu Est" and "K2 Chasing Shadows," as well as during striking climbing documentaries like "Tissalatine - Le Rappel Du Hoggar" (2025), and "The Queen Swing," about the first female ascent by Laura Pineau and Kate Kelleghan of the legendary Triple Crown, which involves linking El Capitan, Half Dome, and Mount Watkins in a single 24-hour climb. Thibaut Marot's work combines technical mastery (managing complex lighting and isolated locations) with a keen sense of narrative: he frames climbers within their environment in such a way that the route, the rock, the ice, or the mountain itself becomes a character. His films and photographs are not simply testimonies; they convey the tension, the exposure, the scale, and the emotional arc of the climb.

K2 Chasing Shadows
10.0

K2 Chasing Shadows chronicles Benjamin Védrines' record-breaking 2024 ascent of K2 (8,611m) in 10 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds, without supplemental oxygen: a story that unfolds as much in the mind as on the mountain. In human exploration, each boundary pushed awakens a new thirst. Each feat paves the way for a deeper quest. It is this tension between extreme performance and inner aspiration that drives K2 Chasing Shadows. For Benjamin Védrines, it is a journey of humility, resilience, and a search for meaning amidst the raw beauty of the Pakistani Karakoram. The film exposes the physical demands of a formidable summit, while also exploring fear, loss, and the perilous nature of dreams that demand total commitment. Between unforeseen obstacles, forced retreats and new attempts, Védrines faces the most trying and exhilarating aspects of mountaineering, constantly questioning where true accomplishment lies.

The Queen Swing follows climbers Laura Pineau and Kate Kelleghan as they chase history on Yosemite’s granite walls, attempting to become the first women to complete the legendary Triple Crown: linking El Capitan, Half Dome, and Mount Watkins in a single 24-hour push. But this isn’t just a story about summits and speed records. It’s about what happens between two people when the only thing keeping you alive is the person on the other end of the rope. Through extreme conditions and risky terrain, the film reveals how trust gets built in increments through shared confidence, quiet encouragement, and the kind of vulnerability that only emerges when you’re too exhausted to pretend. The Crown is the goal, but the partnership is the heart of the climb.

Tissalatine - Le Rappel Du Hoggar
10.0

In the heart of the Hoggar Mountains, Algerian and French climbers meet on the legendary walls of the central Sahara. More than just an ascent, Tissalatine tells the story of an encounter with oneself, with the land, and with history. The film also retraces Thomas Dulac's return, ten years later, to a site he helped to open up. Driven by the profound voice of singer Djam and the vision of director Hamza Mendil, Tissalatine unveils a living, vibrant Sahara, far removed from clichés, in a sweeping epic of adventure, brotherhood, and spiritual elevation.
