February 1934. The passage of the Northern Sea Route in one navigation was an ambitious goal and was of great importance for the USSR. Many considered this venture to be a hopeless and risky venture. The young and daring polar explorers, led by Otto Schmidt, sincerely believed that they would be able to complete the task on the Chelyuskin steamer. But great ideas turned into a great tragedy — the ship was trapped by ice and sank. Now, in the harsh Arctic conditions, the Chelyuskinites have to fight for their lives every minute.
It’s 1980s. Anna Savelyeva grew up in an orphanage and always wanted to have a family. After turning 18, she heads to Moscow to find her father, General Pechorsky, who doesn’t even know his daughter exists. Soon, he hires Anna for her stenography skills to work on his memoirs. With access to classified documents and state secrets, the government stenographer finds herself dragged into the world of international espionage. 1984, a small town near Vitebsk. Criminals who have robbed a local store are hiding from the scene in a truck. A traffic police car is chasing them. Soon the company car disappears. The search for the criminals and the traffic police officer begins, but instead of them, the corpse of a girl is found in the forest. The case is entrusted to local police officer Mikhail Shakhnovich, and a specialist from Minsk, Leonid Ipatiev, is sent to help him. He quickly realizes that Vitebsk colleagues are not particularly zealous in their work: the system is based on bribes and fabricated cases. And while Shakhnovich arrests the first ones who come across, the bodies of women continue to be found in the region.
In May 1941, Major General Golovko, commander of the Soviet Northern Fleet in the Murmansk region of the Soviet Arctic, foresaw the imminent outbreak of war and ordered the training of future special operations personnel for enemy rear operations at naval bases. Civilian female Martha was also invited to the base for training due to her excellent shooting skills. On June 22nd, the Patriotic War broke out, and the German army built a shore artillery position on the Norwegian coast, seriously threatening the safety of Soviet ships and Allied Soviet aid fleets entering and exiting the port of Murmansk. The Golovko pirates ordered the assault team to destroy the German shore artillery position and control it in the hands of the Soviet army. Martha and the assault team embarked on the journey.
The Soldier tells us about the military operations taking place in the years 1965-1973 when a group of Russian military operatives carried out the advisory support of North Vietnam as well as covert operations to capture the spoils (the enemy's new war technologies) It is the story of a soldier named Paul who was sent from Moscow military school in Vietnam where he discovers a traitor among his colleagues. However, through a turn of events, he becomes a traitor in the eyes of the commander, and he has to run from his comrades to complete the operation and prove that he is not guilty. Along the way, he joins forces with a North Vietnamese man and an escaped military pilot. The three men make a plan to leave the territory of Vietnam but the road to freedom is full of dangers and surprises. In the end, Paul finds the original traitor and destroys him but he still has to prove his innocence.
The action takes place shortly after the end of the Second World War in the Siberian hinterland, among Russians and Germans with damaged personal stories and a strange transformation: the victors seem to be crawling into the skins of the defeated, and vice versa. Ignat, is the embodiment of the larger-than-life image of the Soviet victorious warrior who, in fact, proves to be shell-shocked, sick and broken, although not completely destroyed. Trains become fetish for the heroes of the film, and speed becomes a mania; they virtually become one with their steam engines, while the machines take on human names. The heroes set up an almost fatal race in the Siberian forest, risking their own lives and those of others.
