Lou Caspari is confronted with a client whose defense she is strongly advised against. Mario Lenzi is notorious as a professional killer who works for the Mafia and has managed to wriggle out of all charges in the past. Now the public prosecutor's office believes it has watertight evidence and is charging Lenzi with the murder of a mafia boss and his family. However, Lenzi insists that he had nothing to do with the murder and that he has been set up.

During the course of a single night, various people cross paths in the pubs, bars, and hookah lounges of Cologne. The issues that all of Germany is talking about are put on the table: the patriarchy, the Middle East conflict, rising rents, and whether Jesus would still buy everyone drinks today. Political convictions are stiffened by alcohol, and old wounds are reopened.

In a small town, a harmless prank by children causes turmoil in the community. Two boys hit Arkan's Chihuahua, the owner of a boxing gym, with a water balloon. Was the dog hurt? A harmless rumor grows and puts the community to the test.
