Social democracy propaganda film about future dreams for Denmark in 1960. Although Denmark is free again, the former opponent and worker, Svend, is disillusioned: "It is all something soft". The dream of the future is incarnated by a young woman, Karen, who shows Svend the visions of a better life in the 'youth's land'. There are homes and a nuclear-powered car for everyone.

The large manufacturer, engineer Steen Andersen, is a powerful man. A large staff jumps at his slightest whim, he is used to his every order being carried out, and he does not know how to be told off at all. But suddenly his entire regular life is shaken up, and the reason is a young, lovely girl on horseback in the Deer Park. Steen Andersen has met her several times on his morning rides. But how to get to know her?

There has just been a funeral. Outside the cemetery, the family members are standing and discussing how much their deceased great-uncle, the rich toy manufacturer Th. Olsen, has left behind. The family is waiting for little Cornelius Nielsen, who is always late. When he appears, a lively discussion begins about who Uncle Theobald has appointed as heir.

In a small street on the outskirts of town, there are two small shops next to each other: Nummesen's herbalist's shop and Mikkelsen's plumber's shop. Nummesen, the little quirky, friendly herbalist, loves to tease the choleric Mikkelsen. Mikkelsen wants to sell the shop, mostly because the economy is bad after his former Svend, Vilhelm, left it. Now Vilhelm is coming back, to the great joy of Mikkelsen's daughter, who is in love with Vilhelm.

Hilleborg always speaks negatively about her king's marriage to his left hand, Countess Danner. When it is rumored that King Frederik VII and Countess Danner are on their way to Hilleborg and her husband, Niels Parsberg's estate, Hilleborg refuses to be in the living room with the Countess. She switches roles with the housemaid, Lise Sørensen. Lise and Countess Danner quickly become good friends, while Hilleborg's situation worsens when the king decides to spend the night at the estate.

Mona and Carl Johan are having a hard time. They are going to get married, but then Carl Johan is called up to report to the barracks on the wedding night. Carl Johan doesn't want to and goes to the barracks to tell them about it. Mona wants to meet Carl Johan and also leaves, just as Carl Johan is leaving the barracks again. Mona accidentally becomes a hussar and then the riding master's attendant. It is not easy being a woman in the army. After a series of complications, the truth comes out.

In a boarding house in the inner city lives Flora - a fresh Copenhagen girl with a burning dream: She wants to be a journalist. Accompanied by loud gramophone music, the typewriter clatters far into the night. But it is not easy to sell stories to the busy press, and Flora has only one last idea that can secure the rent: An interview with shipowner Olivarius, who has bought a precious Chinese statuette. But nothing goes as Flora expects, and soon she is on the hunt for a dramatic robbery story and - not least - in love with the suspected thief!
