The series follows the residents of an apartment building on Copenhagen's Christianshavn, as they go about their daily lives and challenges. There is Olsen, a mover with an old fashion view of the world, Clausen who runs the local pet shop, Egon the career focused assistant, their wives who work hard to keep their spouses lives together, the young couple Tue and Rikke who recently moved in, the hard working caretaker Meyer, who never puts in to much effort, and of course Emma, the innkeeper of Rottehullet, where all the important decisions are made while running up the bar tab. The series was produced by Nordisk Film for Danmarks Radio TV station between the years 1970-77. The series' first director was Ebbe Langberg, then Erik Balling and Tom Hedegaard respectively. The series was conceived by an author team of well-known Danish authors such Leif Panduro, Benny Andersen, and Lise Nørgaard.

There are real elves in the attic of the old Mayor's House. The elves do everything they can to ensure that the children Mads and Mette have a real Christmas in the Mayor's House. In the midst of the Christmas rush, they make sugar and flour disappear so that no one can bake Christmas cookies—neither the baker nor the citizens of Gammelby. The mayor is unhappy about the strange events and can only think about whether the good ship "Hope," which is supposed to bring new supplies, has been wrecked. There has been no news from the ship for several months, and the big question is whether "Hope" will return to Gammelby before Christmas. Søndreø is a small, peaceful island in one of Denmark's fjords, owned and run by the old farmer Lars Søndervold and his son Søren. But times are hard, and everything is not going as it should. The greedy, bragging merchant Anders Lundrup has used all means to gain possession of the island, and one fine day Søren and his old father must leave their ancestral farm and the island. Søren swears an expensive oath - he will earn so much money that he can one day buy the farm and the island back, and at the same time he swears revenge on Anders Lundrup.

Dust for all the Money

Ellekjær's future is on Ann-Marie's mind. She tries to get her adopted daughter, Grete, married to Erik von der Rude, but Grete loves the farmhand Jørgen. They decide to get married, after which Annemarie disowns Grete. However, Ann-Marie's other daughter, Elin, is in love with Erik. Erik's past in Copenhagen catches up with him, and Elin moves in with her sister. The film then goes through a series of complications before Elin and Erik can finally get married and Ann-Marie is reunited with her daughters.

An American gangster nicknamed "English Joe" has fled across the Mexican border with his gang, consisting of four men in addition to himself. The American police are after them because of a bank robbery in which they killed several of the bank's employees. But "English Joe" soon comes up with a new plan that can bring them to safety for a while and at the same time give them the opportunity for a new coup. An old engineer who has worked at a weapons factory in Mexico has traveled home to his own country to complete an epoch-making invention: the silent machine gun. The men are ordered to Denmark, where the old engineer now lives.

Now Ditte must take care of three new sisters and brothers but gets nothing but complaints from her ungrateful, selfish mother. But the little girl finds consolation and support in both her sisters and brothers and Lars Petter.

The young folk singer Peter Jespersen has returned from abroad and is now without a contract. He approaches director Andresen of the Alhambra Theatre, but is rejected, and Peter understands from the conversation that it will be important for him to get an impresario who can take care of the business for him. He approaches the theatre agents Bang and Mathisen, whose motto is: "If you have the talent, we will get you the contract".
