A different kind of Danish film about Denmark, the Danes, and everyday life in Denmark. An episodic film consisting of different storylines, which are linked together by several smaller scenes.

It all happens over two days and—naturally—and in particular—two nights. A perfectly ordinary girl gets herself into a lot of trouble because of her slightly too big heart, which exposes her to trials and temptations she cannot overcome without the help of little white lies and pretence. She manages to overcome almost all obstacles, but loses her heart.

When a young woman falls in love with a gown in a shop window it leads to adventure and romance exceeding even her own vivid imagination.

Senior barrister Cornelius Thorsen is passionate about three things: good food, fine wine and above all else his lovely daughter Else. At a party, up-and-coming businessman Mads Hovborg catches a glimpse of Else, but when Cornelius thinks Mads is a bit of a King Carrot, he has his romance thwarted. But only for a start.

A picture of the life of the Danish people from the late 1820s to the introduction of the free constitution in 1849. A fictional character, Rasmus Nielsen, travels around the country, first as a traveling teacher, later in other positions, and through his experiences we are introduced to the conditions of various population groups. The central figure in the portrayal of historical figures is the politician Orla Lehmann.

In broad daylight, a man runs at full speed across the Town Hall Square wearing a dress and white. People stare in amazement as he tries to grab a seat in a phone box to make a call. However, his story is even more incredible than they can imagine.

During World War I, the engineer Torben returns home with secret papers from the Russian Tsar to the courier Tuschin, Torben's best friend. Tuschin is found murdered, however, and to solve the murder, Torben stays at his hotel. Here he meets several mysterious people, not least the breathtaking stenographer Inge. But in the hotel, no one is who they pretend to be.

The old doctor, Dr. Bonnesen, is a tired old man. He wants to sell his practice and has been corresponding with the young doctor Jens Winther. Jens arrives in Fjorslev to discuss a possible takeover of Bonnesen's practice and his patients. Bonnesen's beautiful young housekeeper, Anne Mette Krogh, welcomes him. Bonnesen takes a liking to Jens Winther and makes him an offer he cannot refuse.

Due to his weakness for women and gambling, the old landowner Vilhelm Stone has ruined his marriage and lost his son and friends. But when he dies, his son Niels returns home from Australia to take over the estate. However, it is not that simple. Lawyers drag out the inheritance case, and initially Niels only inherits the racehorse Ibrahim. Niels is determined to win the big race of the year at the racetrack, and it is here that Poul Reichhardt sings the famous schlager Ibrahim to his horse. In the battle to get the family estate, Niels gets incredible help from his faithful companion, the farmhand Nicholajsen.

On the deck of the Aalborg boat, the young girl Elly stands and stares at Copenhagen's towers and roofs, shining in the red glow of the afternoon sun. Elly has been lucky, she thinks: a maid in a boarding house in Nansensgade, her own room and a good salary. However, Elly is quickly disappointed. The boarding house is dirty, and after advances from one of the boarders, she packs her suitcase. She meets Agnes, a girl from home. Agnes takes Elly under her wing and gets her a place in a hotel and offers her half of her attic room. Elly feels safe with Agnes, but then one day a young man crosses her path.

Among the many guests at the Rebild festival is Andreas Andersen, a man in his early 30s. But he has not come to Denmark to attend the big festival. Seventeen years ago, he was a poor farmhand at "Hovgården," but he fled the country because the farmer's wife, the authoritative Martha Larsen, accused him of a theft that was actually committed by her son, Henrik. Andreas came to America and led a turbulent life here before becoming a farmer and earning a lot of money.

The stubborn and reclusive Kresten Flint lives alone on "Flintegården" with his daughter, Else, who is kind-hearted but not quite normal. One day, the young farmer Jesper Poulsen arrives to propose to Else. His girlfriend has let him down, so he comes with honest intentions—to be good to Else and get the farm back on its feet. Else gives birth to twins, two boys, Viggo and Martin, but she dies in childbirth, leaving Jesper alone with his two boys. Viggo and Martin grow up to be two handsome men who are also inseparable friends—until they fall in love with the same girl...

Theodor Nielsen lives a peaceful life with his adult daughter Eva. Then the weather vane on the nearby church tower starts squeaking every night. Theodor goes to the priest, who refers him to the Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs, which in turn refers him to the municipality, which in turn does nothing. Theodor takes advantage of his side job at the radio station and tells all the listeners about the annoying weather vane. Theodor becomes a folk hero and is encouraged to run for municipal office. He is elected but is heavily manipulated by his party colleagues. However, Eva helps him get back on track.

Four Danish-Americans who, thanks to their exploits across the Atlantic, should have been behind bars, have taken up residence in a Copenhagen hotel. It is not longing for their homeland that has driven them home, but the hope of making "the big deal," more specifically, securing the crown jewels at Rosenborg Castle in a daring coup. At the hotel, the four "gentlemen" impatiently await their boss's orders to move out.

They are talking about how much they are looking forward to a rest in Denmark and John Petersen who is of Danish descent talks about his native Copenhagen.
