The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson is a series of five films produced by Lenfilm for the Soviet Central Television, split into eleven episodes, starring Vasily Livanov as Sherlock Holmes and Vitaly Solomin as Dr. Watson. They were directed by Igor Maslennikov and filmed in Russia (the then Soviet Union) between 1979 and 1986, and the series was one of the most successful in the history of Russian television.

Detective television series based on the works of Arthur Conan Doyle. Five films about Sherlock Holmes, shot by Igor Maslennikov earlier, were remounted in 2000, a connecting story about Conan Doyle's literary secretary, Mr. Wood, who is preparing an anniversary collection of stories about Holmes for the beginning of the coming XX century. The first part of the Soviet series of television films based on the stories of Arthur Conan Doyle about Sherlock Holmes, filmed in 1979. The film consists of two parts and was filmed based on the story "The Speckled Band" (1st part "The Acquaintance") and the novella "A Study in Scarlet" (beginning of the 1st part and the 2nd part "Bloody Inscription").

A young police officer, Sergeant Nikolai Zakharov, who is simultaneously completing his studies at the University's Law Faculty, is assigned to investigate the assault and robbery committed against Alexei Severtsev, an applicant who has come from a distant city to study at a Leningrad university.

A Soviet cruise ship "Evgeni Onegin" is carrying cages with tigers and lions for a Soviet Circus. One loose monkey unlocks all cages, letting the tigers and lions out. Poor passengers and crew have no place to run. The captain abandons his post out of fear, and the monkey takes over the captain's post. The ship gets under total control by the tigers and lions. Only one lady is standing up to the challenge. Her name is Marianna, she loves animals, and she takes the situation under control.

Holmes receives a message from Inspector Gregson about a strange case in an abandoned house on Brixton Road: the body of an elderly American was found there, and the word "Revenge" is written in blood on the wall.

Nikolai finds the strength to continue living, enters a construction institute, meets Valya and begins a new happy life without war...

In a deserted tundra on the lake, a seaplane makes an emergency landing, on board of which bank collectors carry a large amount of money. A storm begins and the plane relates to the river delta. An unknown person steals money from an airplane and kills a geologist, an accidental witness. And a few days later the ship departs from the northern port for the last navigation voyage, where a recidivist hides among the motley company of passengers, and the captain begins his own investigation...

The year is 1943. A scientific expedition led by Professor Sagdulaev is working in the Karakum sands. In the sands, not far from them, a German plane drops paratroopers disguised in Soviet military uniforms. The saboteurs have a mission: to take explosives hidden in the ruins of an old fortress and blow up the strategic bridge over the Amu Darya. The members of the expedition engage in an unequal battle with the enemies…
