A 16-year-old girl and her mother attempt to conceal the girl's biological maturity in a desperate plan to escape an oppressive community before she is forced to marry the elderly cult leader.
Spain, 1937. In the midst of the Civil War, Helena lives with her mother and her brother Bruno, unrecognizable and covered in bandages after returning from the front. Their strange, dehumanized presence awakens in Helena a restlessness that mingles with blurred memories, changing spaces, and blurring realities.
