German and Austrian hunting tourists drive through the bush, lie in wait, stalk their prey. They shoot, sob with excitement and pose before the animals they have bagged. Set within a Viennese apartment block, this affectionate Austrian comedy makes fun of the strange habits of the famed city's residents. The building is located in a middle-class area and has residents from many age groups and walks of life. Many of the tenants are much older, but there are also a few children about. In one apartment lives a large group of Polish construction workers, while a Yugoslavian woman and her huge family attempt to survive in their tiny flat. The episodic story of the lives of these and other tenants is framed by a visit from a civil servant from the Office of Statistics.

Stories about citizens of a big city who encounter a variety of fates as a result of their difficulties in communicating with each other.

After twenty unsuccessful years, pop singer Harry Kuntz has landed a hit: a remake of Lehár's "Your is my whole heart" catapulted him to the top of the charts. While Harry basks in his sudden fame, his brother and manager Tommy's dream of wealth is just around the corner. A car breakdown on a stormy night leads the brothers to a remote house. Harry is once again playing the sexual daredevil and thinks he's having success with his pick-me-up. A fatal error. Suddenly, the two brothers find themselves in a nightmare from which there is no escape.

Thomas, a student drop-out, keeps his head above water with a life of petty crime. Passing himself off once again as a ticket inspector on a tram to extract money from fare-dodgers, he is confronted by Erich, a genuine inspector, or so it seems... However, Erich won his inspector's identity badge at cards. The two begin to meet regularly. Thomas doesn't realise until too late that he is to play a major role in Erich's long-planned coup. The well thought out plan succeeds. Unfortunately, however, Erich has failed to consider how he can convert his booty - a lorry load of valuable carpets - into hard cash. Their problems are just beginning...
