Asahina Mahiru, a college student influencer, wanders into the secret nation of “Malkut” while searching for a missing senior. What she witnesses there is a disturbing scene: clones, mass-produced as laborers, created from originals abducted from the modern world. Both the originals and their clones have chips called “Nodes” implanted in their necks, allowing their emotions and actions to be monitored and recorded 24 hours a day, forming a thoroughly controlled society. Before long, she too is placed under control as an “original,” with her very right to live subjected to the judgment of the citizens—a world where even human value is reduced to numbers under a super-surveillance regime. Can she ever return to her original world?
