Jompa is unemployed - and not keen on getting a job. He still lives with his parents who are tired of his attitude about employment and regular hours. Jompa and his friends spend their time at nightclubs, cafés and doing petty crimes. While playing poker, Jompa becomes indebted to the criminal Kalle Lund. Of course, Jompa is unable to pay, but Kalle gives him a tip: an old fetcher has always a lot of money at home, and if Jompa could get his hands on the money, his troubles would disappear... On a tourist trip abroad the passengers on the coach witness an assassination attempt on the President Hurkas. One of the tourists has evidence against the perpetrators, and is killed when the coach reaches Sweden. Another passenger observes how one of the perpetrators is picked up by a yellow car. She is kidnapped and locked up in a mental hospital.
The boxing promoter Charlie returns from America to Sweden and needs to find a professional Swedish boxer for an upcoming fight. By chance Charlie watches Björn Harring fight off some hoodlums. Charlie sees great potential in Björn and wants to promote him for an upcoming fight, the problem is though that Björn is studying theology and is soon to become a priest. This might not look too good in a prejudiced society of the 40s with a boxing priest, but Charlie is determent to find a way.
Olof is driven from home when he wants to marry the wrong girl. He takes a job as a log driver and his reputation as a womanizer goes far and wide.
