A small town somewhere in the north. The body of a brutally murdered young girl, Anna, is found by the river. The investigation is taken up by the determined criminalist Laura Linhartová (Kristýna Ryška), and her old colleague Adam Beneš (Kryštof Hádek) is assigned to her. The main suspect is a recently convicted perpetrator who is responsible for a similar murder. Just when it seems that the search for Anna's murderer is over, new evidence appears that brings the whole case back to the beginning. The criminalists thus embark on a complicated investigation full of unexpected twists and turns. The circle of suspects in the small town expands dramatically. The tension between Laura and Adam rises, not to mention their different characters and shared past. And the question still hangs in the air: Who killed Anna Pittnerová?

Happiness is often found unexpectedly, so what? A lesbian couple raise their two children in perfect harmony when a man from the past intervenes. Violent psychopath demands the custody of his daughter, while his ex-wife suffers his terror. Two teenagers simply run away and a devout man does not have the strength to protect his love.

The episodic film MARBLES consists of several short stories about how women manipulate with men. About subtle blackmailings, about crying, about tears, about the ability to sacrifice oneself for a dream, about sex as a service, about the way we can use empathy. It all starts on the playground among children and death does not equal the end. As time goes by, a feminine mechanism of manipulation develops, shapes up, ripens until it reaches the stage of perfection. Individual short stories take place at a techno party as well as in a Catholic parsonage and they conclude in a content domestic routine of two old people which cannot be disrupted by anything – not even by death. The short stories about women of different age and lifestyle put together a story of one complete human life which was, thanks to the manipulation with others, lived according to the plan and at the same time and from the same reason wasted away.

Three young girls must say goodbye to the present moment. This short coming-of-age film delicately captures the emotions tied to those times when we have to let go and move forward. Farewells are inevitable—whether it’s a study trip, a summer, or childhood itself.
