Three young Soviet women encounter a French filmmaker who is planning the first erotic film since the October Revolution.

In Russia in the late 1960s, Elena will do anything to see that her son Yuri succeeds as a pianist: she longs for him to win a competition that will send him to Paris. To ensure his success, she denies her love for an iconoclastic painter for whom she models, prostitutes herself to a Party figure, encourages her son to break with his true love because the girl is a Jew, and, in general, behaves in paranoid ways, believing, for example, that a new lodger, Evgeny, is a KGB spy. She also has her own family secrets, which she will go to any length to keep her son from learning.

A teenage girl nicknamed Avariya - "Crash" - is a rebel child that just can't get along with her family members that try to persuade her to behave normally - that is as other people do. But when Avariya gets gang-raped, his father (who is a cop) breaks all the rules and goes out for revenge.

This movie deals with two friends, 13-14 year old boys. One comes from a more or less stable home (although he is growing up with single mom) and another comes from a broken up family. One day the kids break into a store to pretty much have fun and get something to eat, short time after they get caught and one kid is sent to juvenile prison (14 year old) and another one is released to his being too young to be tried (13 years old). The younger kid feels bad about such decision, feels guilty and tries to help his friend in any way possible. While trying to help he is meeting a guy, who is ex-cop and now down-on-his-luck drunk(played by Priyomykhov himself)... the two become friends. In the finale, the ex-cop has to go one of the PTA meeting at school (his mother could not get away from work and knows nothing about the ex-cop) where suddenly his mother appears and meets the "father"...

People from all over the area and even from all over the country come to Maximilian, who lives in a quiet rural area, for advice. Maximilian is known as a prophet and sorcerer. For example, he is able to give out the methodology for the election campaign. This is why a candidate for deputy named Kutergin comes to him. Here he organizes proper work to receive the population. Disappointed with such a life, Maximilian climbs onto an iron cage in a field and waits for a revelation, a conversation with the Lord. He is declared a stylite; Hare Krishnas, communists, democrats and other crazy people come from all over. And Maximilian suddenly realizes that he must return to the city to his wife, to whom he promised five years ago that he would quit drinking, and leaves his “pillar”. Maximilian left, and his place was taken by Kutergin, who believed in the miracle.

Pavel and Pavelina leave their rural countryside homes and move to Moscow to find work. Once there, they find that urban life is not what they thought it was and have to endure bitter hardships as they try to find work and places to live. The two meet for the first time during a fight at a bar, when they are arrested by police along with others in the building. The understand each other's troubles and band together to avoid both the police and criminal gangs that plagued Moscow toward the end of the Soviet Union.
