Known For

Omar lived in a very small village in Africa. He arrived in Barcelona in the winter. He would like to learn languages and study, but there are no vacancies in the courses. He would like to work, but he has to wait until he has papers. He would like to get to know the city, find people who trust him, and not feel so alone. He misses his village, his family, and especially his mother. They talk often on the phone, but Omar can't express how difficult everything is here.
The distances

One-minute short film that delves into the author’s personal family archive. Through the simple gesture of revealing the handwritten notes and letters on the back of photographs, more than two decades of memories and emotions unfold in sixty seconds. Many families who emigrated from South America to Spain in the early 2000s remained deeply connected to the relatives who chose not to leave their homeland. Their bonds survived through image-fragments: brief scenes of everyday life accompanied by hastily written words on the back of each photo. These messages speak of new cities and adopted traditions, but also of uncertainty, longing, and the quiet resilience that accompany the act of leaving everything behind to start anew.
