Biography
Luiza del Valle, also known as D. Chincha (1892–1930), was a Brazilian comedic theater actress and member of the Margarida Max Company. She began her career in the 1910s and in the following years won over Rio and São Paulo audiences, quickly becoming one of the most beloved actresses. She was the daughter of actress Salvadora del Valle.

The story evolves around four women. The two lead characters, Vera and Gilda, middle-class women, are poor but ambitious. They face the bourgeois characters, Helena and Diva.

Maria, a very sweet young woman, was loved by everyone, including Norberto, "a soul deadened by imbecility." However, she falls in love with Álvaro, an honest and well-intentioned young man, and they soon marry. Maria's parents, Dona Chincha (a wicked mother) and "Seu" Augusto (an alcoholic and lazy father), vehemently support the marriage, since Álvaro is rich. The only person unhappy with the marriage is Norberto.
