Biography
He studied acting at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. He began his acting career at the Army Theater in Martin. From 1959 he was a member of the SND Drama. He has presented his acting skills in more than forty films. His domain was robust, psychologically-realistic characters. He also created genre-diverse characters in the classical repertoire. He got his first big film role in 1962 in the film Boxer and Death. On the radio, he created a number of character, heroic and romantic characters in plays by domestic and foreign authors. From 1984 he worked as a teacher at the Academy of Performing Arts. After 1989, he was a member of parliament for two terms (until 1994), first for the CIS and later for the DU. He also served as Vice-Chairman of the SNR Committee on Education, Science, Culture and Sport. In 2004, President Ivan Gašparovič lent him the state award of the Council of Ľudovít Štúr II. classes. In 2010, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the 2009 TV Screen Personality Awards.

Director Andrej Lettrich's novel adaptation talks of plotting, forbidden love. family discord, and struggle for heritage and power. The story is engaging thanks to the impressive performances of popular actors, dramatic situations, and sensitive music. Red Wine is not so much inventive in terms of auteurship as it is a work of excellent craftsmanship. The resulting picture is a costume production neatly adapted to the character of Slovak rural life in the past.

The action of the epic film takes place in the second half of World War II. The plot focuses on the liberation of European countries from German occupation and the anti-fascist activities of the communist parties of these countries. After the victory at Stalingrad, a decisive turn occurred during the war. The main aim is the rallying of all patriotic forces, the creation of a national anti-fascist front in the struggling countries. The swift offensive of the Soviet troops, problems with the opening of a second front, major operations and the offensive of the Soviet army lead to the liberation of Europe. Rebellions are rising in different countries - such as the heroic uprising in Warsaw, in Slovenia, Bucharest and other cities. Brave heroes who performed immortal feats in the name of the happiness of mankind and freedom.

The year is 1943. The war is raging between the Germans and the Allies in North Africa. A truck with a Czech crew, Lieutenant Navara and six soldiers, escapes from the Foreign Legion fortress. Their aim is to reach the Allies and fight against Nazism. The truck is destroyed by a German army plane, which is hit by enemy fire in its turn. One Czech soldier dies in the attack, the driver is badly wounded, and Navara has serious burns on his face. The group has very little water and must reach an oasis that is 60 km away.
