Ramayan is a highly successful and phenomenally popular Indian epic television series created, written, and directed by Ramanand Sagar. The 78 episode series originally aired weekly on Doordarshan from 25 January 1987, to 31 July 1988, on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. IST. It is a television adaptation of the ancient Indian Hindu religious epic of the same name and is primarily based on Valmiki's Ramayan and Tulsidas' Ramcharitmanas. It is also partly derived from portions of Kamban's Ramavataram and other works.

Adivasi Mahua lives a poor lifestyle in a fishing village along with her widowed dad. Shortly thereafter Mahua and Kishan fall in love and get married. After about 2 months Kishan goes to the city and does not return home. A frantic Mahua and her dad go to the Police as well as to the city to search for him albeit in vain and return home. Mahua continues to worry about Kishan and sets out on her own to try and locate him. She meets with a doctor who informs her that he recalls treating a male fitting Kishan's description and gives her his Bombay address. Mahua travels to Bombay and locates Kishan's house.

Meet Pyarelal, a simple-minded, naive young man, orphaned at birth, living with a Muslim landlady, Fatima, who treats him like her son. When the police arrest Pyarelal on the charge of murder, no one really believes that this harmless man could harm anyone, leave alone kill. Things do go according to plan, and the children do start hating their dad. But on the 30th day, Alka receives a phone call that the children have been kidnapped and the kidnapper is demanding a sum of 25 Lakh rupees. Watch and find out who abducted the children, and whether or not Tiger had a hand in this.

Dr. Vijay is a psychiatrist and is in love with a beautiful young woman named Asha. Jaya lives in a village called Chandangaon in India along with her widower dad, Gokul, who works for a living as a compounder, but calls himself a Homeopathic doctor and dispenses Arnica for all kinds of ailments, especially since there is no qualified doctor in the village. Since Jaya is or marriageable age, he has arranged her marriage with hard-of-hearing Shiv, the son of Dayashankar, who is the President of the Gram Panchayat. Dayashankar is anxious to get Shiv married so that he can get some dowry from Gokul. The other suitor for Jaya is Ratan, whose mother would like her to re-marry her son as his wife, Maya, is unable to conceive. Then a new doctor arrives in this village to look after the charitable dispensary. Things heat up when Dayashankar and Ratan's mom find out that he may be Jaya's new suitor. Hilarious chaos reigns when Maya assaults her cruel mother-in-law, and Ratan abducts Jaya from her marriage with Shiv.

Gopichand Verma is a retired Judge of the Supreme Court of India. He re-locates to scenic Ooty and decides to live there in a palatial home. He has a cook/servant in Badriprasad Chaurasia. He soon finds out that there is a mystery behind Nandini and her presence in his house, apart from the fact that she is mentally imbalanced. He does accept her and decides to let her live there, but his wife, his son, his sister, his son-in-law, and daughter have other plans - for they have hired notorious hit-man Samar Khan to abduct and kill Nandini at any cost. Is Nandini really Verma's daughter? Why would the Verma family want her dead?
