Orphaned high school student Agnes lives with her aunt and uncle. She often bumps into Karl who lives on the 17th floor of the same building. Karl is always reading the newspaper with excessive attention, and as Agnes later learns, he is a bright student who suffers from speech and language impairment. As she pays a visit to Karl, she discovers his miserable childhood and his big secret. Karl is arrested for his actions when the secret is unveiled.
