A young woman named Asih loses her family one by one in the aftermath of the events of 1965. The tragedy begins with the disappearance of her elder brother, Wigati, followed by the abduction of her sibling and sibling-in-law, and the deaths of her parents. Consumed by grief and resentment toward life and those around her, Asih struggles to move forward. With sincerity and compassion, Ahmad offers her his love and helps her find the strength to rise from her despair.
Hardjono, a ketoprak performer whose art is a calling of the soul, is faced with an unavoidable situation. He tells his story through a letter to his beloved. Friends and neighbors come urging him to flee, as the leader of his ketoprak troupe has already been arrested. But Hardjono stands firm. Soldiers and a mob arrive to take him away, leaving a trail of blood on the floor of his home.
